The Law for Change fund exists to significantly increase the level and quality of funding for legal actions in the public interest. It is a first-of-its kind initiative enabling donors to achieve collective results through pooling resources for low-cost, high impact legal cases which would otherwise not get heard.
The objective of Law for Change funding is to sufficiently ‘de-risk’ the process by providing law firms with the resources needed to enable more cases in the public interest to proceed than would otherwise be possible. It is not expected or intended that Law for Change would cover the entire potential costs of a claimant’s case. Funding from Law for Change might cover a combination of the initial stages of an action such as pre-action correspondence to launch a credible case, a pledge against adverse costs, or support in the event a case goes to trial. Funding decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Alongside our founders, we are seeking multi-year funding commitments to enable us to reach our goal of backing up to 30 cases each year. We are committed to full transparency of reporting and budgeting. Funding partners will be credited on our website and relevant materials.
