NPC and the Ethos Foundation would like to invite funders interested in tackling child poverty to the launch of Closing the Gap, which explores approaches for building better child poverty prevention systems in the UK.
3 out of 10 children in UK are living in poverty, which is one of the highest rates for developed countries, and it’s getting worse with deep impact on the future prosperity of the nation. This situation is the result of growing economic inequality, and under-investment in prevention and support systems.
Child poverty is a complex and systemic problem requiring multi-faceted and systemic responses, involving families, as well as institutions such as schools, childcare providers, and other services. Outcomes are not improving generally, raising the question what the social sector can do to foster greater collaboration and deliver positive change for children and families.
NPC has been working with many stakeholders to consider what more effective systems for child poverty prevention might look like. This work – Closing the Gap – has drawn on research, interviews and design workshops to create an interactive systems map and report, and to identify levers for systemic change.
The event will include a presentation of the report’s headlines, a case study of this approach in practice, as well as a panel discussion between funders and practitioners working to bring a better system about. There will also be refreshments and time for networking.
We are delighted to be joined by Graeme Duncan from Right to Succeed who will give a keynote speech, as well as Ed Vainker from Reach Foundation and Aida Cable from Thrive at Five.
