We Move FWD is holding a convening event at Coram to consider how we tackle the disparity of outcomes in the crucial early years. Together, we would like to explore how change can be achieved by investing in communities, partnering for impact and storytelling for change.
The first few years of a child’s life are key, where the foundations of their skills, knowledge and wellbeing are built. Their experiences and how they are supported in developing at this stage has a profound, direct impact on children and young people’s short- and long-term health outcomes and life chances. This includes their future opportunities, their educational attainment and even their earning potential. However, we know that Black children and their families experience a range of systemic and structural barriers, alongside intersectional challenges that impact their early years, leading to negative impacts on their life chances. BBC Children in Need is here to make sure that every child has the childhood they deserve – and the support they need to thrive.
We Move FWD (formerly We Move Fund) is a 10-year, £10 million commitment to Black children, young people and their families across the UK. Since 2020, we have invested around £4 million to support around 70 organisations across the UK supporting Black young people.
The event will be held at Coram, 41 Brunswick Square, London, WC1N 1AZ
Lunch will be provided. Please register by 10th October.
Learning and Resources
We have also commissioned a summary briefing from Critical Early Years which sets out the current context and how we can facilitate better outcomes for Black families. This will be sent out ahead of the event to registered attendees.
